World Darts Championship with TONY – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

TRADER CHAT: The World Darts Championship takes centre stage from Friday 15 December all the way through to Wednesday 3 January. We caught up with traders in a Q&A session on the darting showpiece ahead and what we can look forward to.

Q: What makes the World Darts Championship unique compared to other tournaments played? 🎯

A: It’s the Big One – Venue, Coverage, Party Atmosphere, the lot. Players have had a couple of weeks off to really prepare knowing a deep run can set you up for the year ahead. From a betting perspective Sky Sports coverage & being over Christmas the Darts has a chance to take centre stage with many other sports on a break. It is also Set play rather than Legs which is different to most tournaments throughout the season.

Q: How do you think defending champion Michael Smith will fare this year? 🎯

A: He was 4/1 after last years win, he is now a

shot. It has not been a good year and has been using different darts for the last couple of months to try find some rhythm, also the 180’s he’s famous for have dried up. His draw is quite kind though & maybe to reach semi finals this year would be considered a decent run.

Q: Luke Humphries is our current favourite – why do you think that is? 🎯

A: : Dominant for a while now especially on European Tour. Positive attitude, regular ton plus averages and a good finisher on most doubles. The only negatives could be set play and maybe now potential becomes expectancy. He has gone from 20/1 in early July to

Fav but to be fair he is the man to beat on form.

Q: Are there any outsiders we should be looking at? 🎯

A: Left field big prices maybe Jim Williams’

draw could open up and Chris Dobey has a winnable quarter. Possible one of the 3 youngsters goes on a meaningful run (Rock , Van Veen & Littler) not to sound like Deon Dublin from his Homes under the Hammer days but they all have very high ceilings.

Q: Who of the well-known names may struggle? 🎯

A: Michael Smith after a poor year & little form of late, MVG last won in 2019 but he feels short enough with the quality of field & inconsistency creeping in. Gerwyn Price’ form has tapered off a bit and a rowdy crowd could play a part. Peter Wright been under par in the main this year but you can never write off Snakebite. To Summarise we will be competitive and try to lay everyone!

Q: Are there any specific storylines to follow this year? 🎯

A: Will Luke Humphries carry his form to the Worlds? Can ‘Queen of the Palace’ Fallon Sherrock have another famous run? Could we see our youngest ever winner with the exciting trio of Josh Rock (

), Gian van Veen (

) & Luke Littler (

) all fancied to go well.

Q: We’ve been betting on this since last year’s Championship, how’s the book looking? 🎯

A: Anderson laid at 66/1, now

, Bunting laid at 100/1, now

& Van Veen, early 400/1 (oh dear) to

… All very smelly P45 jobs!

Q: Any finally do we have any promotions the punters can get stuck into? 🎯

A: We do indeed, we’ll be running our ‘Check Out Early’ outright offer which will run until the first darts is thrown and our popular ‘Above Average’ promotion is back and is running throughout the tournament.

Thanks Tony for the answers!
