Wetherby Friday – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Have got some really nice rides to look forward to at Wetherby on Friday so will be keeping my fingers crossed that the weather doesn’t spoil things. The course said they were raceable on Thursday but there’s plenty of rain about and they have now called a 7am inspection on Friday morning …..

PRESENTING NELLY – 12:40pm bet365 Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 4) 2m 5f 56y ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐

She’s won her last two in novice company. Stepping into a handicap now, hopefully Presenting Nelly has still got a bit of scope in her mark. I think this trip is what she wants, and she should handle the ground. She seems to be getting better with racing so hopefully she can get the day off to a good start.

GREY DAWNING – 1:15pm bet365 Novices’ Chase (GBB Race) (Class 3) 3m 45y ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐

Wetherby’s a lovely track to take a horse for their first start of the season. Grey Dawning has done a nice bit of work at home and seems to be in good form. We’d like to hope that there’s still a bit to come from him and we’re looking forward to getting him started. We’ve got to give a bit of weight to Apple Away though, which might be a hard task.

SHAN BLUE – 3:00pm Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) (Class 1) 2m 3f 85y ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐

I must say Shan Blue (pictured with me below) is in really good form with himself at home, he’s done a lot of steady work and we’re very happy with him. After his fall in the Charlie Hall a couple of seasons ago, you never quite know whether he had that in the back of his mind and it knocked his confidence. He’s fully back on track at home, and this looks a nice race to get him back going again. We’re hopeful that he can run a positive race and then more will come his way further down the line.

VIRGINIA LODGE and GREAT VALLEY – 3:35pm bet365 Junior “National Hunt” Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 4) 2m ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐

Virginia Lodge wouldn’t really want the ground to be too soft, but we’ve got to get another run into her. She put in a nice clear round at Ludlow last time and we’ll be looking for more of the same. I think her future probably lies in handicaps.

It was disappointing to see Great Valley run out at the last hurdle on debut at Hereford. That was very uncharacteristic of him, he’s done an awful lot of schooling and hopefully he can put a nice clear round in here.

ASTA LA PASTA – 4:10pm bet365 Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 3) 2m ⭐ STAR PRICES ⭐

Asta La Pasta won nicely on his hurdles debut at Uttoxeter recently so carries a penalty here. We’ve got to get some more experience into him and this is a nice track at which to do it. He’s a horse that we think can be pretty decent further down the line.
