TOUR Championship – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Imagine backing Scottie Scheffler last week and thinking you were battling it out with Fitzpatrick for the win, only for Viktor Hovland to swoop in with a stunning 61 and nab the win out from under your nose!

That would truly sicken your hole. I’m glad I dodged that pain, but I had my share of torture as well when one of my picks, Max Homa, shot a second round 62, vaulting him two shots clear of the field and firmly in the driver’s seat entering round three. After a solid enough start on the Saturday, he suddenly had a ‘Maxy meltdown’ and shot a triple bogey seven on a par four to sink back into the pack.

Betting on golf is hard kids. Homa did manage a place but that feels like fairly scant reward all things considered. Well done to Viktor Hovland though, a thoroughly bloody nice young chap, whose game seems to be going from strength to strength this season.

This week it’s the final chapter of the season as the top thirty players on the money list battle it out for the Tour Championship and the Fedex Cup. As I’ve said before, I’m not a massive fan of the handicap system for this particular tournament, but it is what it is so I’ve tried to find some value through a few players who I think could conceivably close the gap across four rounds.

Blue Horseshoe Loves…

Jon Rahm – Currently at

Rahm starts 4 shots back from Scheffler. That’s a big hill to climb, but across four rounds it’s not insurmountable for Rahmbo. Win only.

Max Homa – Currently at

Max has run two places for us in successive weeks, so we’ll stay on the Homa train. He starts six shots back, but his game is in good shape and as long as he avoids another calamitous hole like he had last week, he could possibly bridge the gap.

Xander Schauffele – Currently at

Xander has had a fairly disappointing season in many respects, but here he is again at the business end of the season mixing it up with the top thirty money earners on tour, so it’s not all two minute noodles for tea. He starts seven back from Scheffler, but he has course and distance form, coming from behind to win this very tournament in 2017. Xander looks some place value here at worst.

And in the Czech Masters in Europe… 🇨🇿

Robert MacIntyre – Currently at

MacIntyre went agonisingly close at the Scottish Open, just losing out on the win to a bit of final hole wizardry by Rory McIlroy. I think he looks an acceptable price in what is a pretty thin field quality wise.
