Tottenham v Burnley – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Ange Postecoglou hosts Kompany’s Clarets as both fight for a 4th round place in their only remaining domestic cup campaign…

Spurs’ 4-2 defeat in Brighton shortly after Christmas put a sharp pause to the invincible aura that Ange’s Spurs were receiving from the press after three successive wins.

The away side had a mere fifth of the Seagulls’ Expected Goals that day and the two netted efforts in the second half were simply in vain when the game was already a done deal at 4-0.

There’s no reason why both sides won’t name a reasonably strong lineup as they subsequently have a nine and ten-day break respectively and this could be the chance for Ange to resume his momentum after ending the Cherries’ 7 match unbeaten run on New Year’s Eve thanks to goals by Sarr, Son and Richarlison.

Sarr showed what he could do when he was given some space by opposition defenders and Son continued to demonstrate his fishing ability in front of goal from the left.

It could’ve been much more that day and the fluency in the final third of the pitch in the second half, despite having less possession, will be hard to outmatch for Burnley if reprised.

Thanks to four wins from their last five matches, Spurs are just one point behind Arsenal in fourth place and have cemented themselves as one of the four main challengers to league leaders Liverpool who are clear by six.

VIEW MATCH MARKETS

Pressure is slowly but surely beginning to mount for Vincent Kompany as his side sits in 19th place and five points adrift of the safe zone which looks an unlikely destination when you consider they are 2/9 to remain in the red area at the end of the season.

Both Luton and Everton’s decent form of late could create a gaping chasm between 18th and 19th-placed Burnley and the pressure is now on Brentford in 16th to end their five-match losing streak before they’re in the relegation picture too.

Belgian club signing Lyle Foster who has 7 goal contributions in 11 games provides the main attacking option for Kompany. He recently scored against Villa in his second full match since an 8-match spell on the sidelines.

VERDICT
Despite injury issues and the likes of Bissouma and Sarr departing for international duty, I can’t see any potential for Burnley to reverse the form that saw Spurs beat them 5-2 at Turf Moor in September and for that reason -1 looks great bet at an odds against price of 11/10 with starsports.bet
