The RSM Classic – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Well, we made it team. The 2023 PGA tour season comes to its conclusion this weekend at the RSM Classic.

The Sea Island resort in Georgia will run a two course format for the tournament. The Plantation and Seaside courses will be played in rotation by the field across Thursday and Friday. Once the cut is made the weekend golf will be played at the Seaside Course. Both are relatively short tracks, but the Plantation course is by far the easier layout. The seaside course is tight, twisting par 70 running out at just over 7000 yards.

The course does have a couple of great defences, however; namely the small greens and one big blue Atlantic Ocean parked right beside the fairways and greens. If the wind whips up, which it often does, this Seaside track can become a real war of attrition for the field. We’re looking for guys who excel in getting in onto the fairways and who can vary their ball flight in the wind if the need arises.

No surprises here. I keep backing Cole and he keeps running places. He’s got the iron game to win here and I expect him to be right in the mix again in what is not a stellar field.

Keith Mitchell – Currently at

Mitchell is an excellent exponent of varying the flight of his irons. He can keep shots nice and low if required and he has the power to reach greens with irons if the offshore winds whip up, which may well be a struggle for others. Michell seems to be coming back into some sort of form and he looks a very nice price here.

Brendon Todd – Currently at

Another man who seems to have re-found his swing lately is Brendon Todd. He’s not the longest man off the tee boxes by many means, but he’s as straight as a dye and that’s worth gold around here. Todd has been right in contention over the last couple of weeks and I think he’s set to go well again at a venue that’s right up his alley strengths wise. My only note of caution with him is if it gets windy. He can struggle with distance and there are a few tough, exposed holes coming in at the Seaside Course.

Adam Long – Currently at

For a bit of value, I like Adam Long here. He’s been high in the driving accuracy stats in the last couple of tournaments and that’s an extremely valuable asset at Sea Island. He’s another player who has been around the top of the leaderboard the last couple of weeks and he looks decent each way value this week with his proven ability to drive it out onto the short grass and put himself in position to take advantage.
