St Jude Championship – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

I took a holiday last week and went to the Galway Festival.

If you ever want a fantastic day or two at the races and all the entertainment that comes with it, I cannot recommend the Galway festival highly enough. You’d think that the last thing I’d be thinking about while following fast women and slow racehorses was golf, but my thoughts were dominated by one name; Lee Hodges.

As many of you who read my PGA Tour previews will know I identified young Mr. Hodges a little over a year ago as an exciting young talent who represented great each way value and had been backing him with almost religious fervour since. After a year of continual disappointment, I’d started to give up the ghost on Lee investment wise and thought he might end up being one of those ‘nearly’ guys.

To watch him win his first PGA Tour the week before last, stretching away from the field in style, while I was on the first leg of my hollybobs sickened my hole to such an extent that I find it quite impossible to put into words.

For the next few days one part of me said; ‘See you were right, he is good.’

While the other part said; ‘Yes he is isn’t he, you idiot.’

Anyway, that’s my therapy session over, thank you Doctors. You’ll be pleased to know the night terrors are finally beginning to pass.

This week we find ourselves in week one of the Fedex Cup Playoff series. The top seventy on the PGA Tour money list are all in attendance for the Fedex St. Jude Classic. The host course is TPC Southwind a Par 70 measuring just over 7,200 yards.

As ever I’m looking for decent each way value and the fact that this is a small field no cut event means that a slow start does not necessarily mean your man is history from the get go.

Enough said above. But he looks in good knick and when his game is in that state, I think he’s properly good. He also had a very respectable deep run in last year’s FedEx Cup playoff series.

Another guy I’ve been following for quite some time. He’s a very consistent player week in week out and I think he’s great value for a place here.

Max Homa – Currently

Homa looks nice value here. He’s had a spluttering sort of season with a very fast start followed by a somewhat quiet second half. Homa’s game looks to be coming back into form and at a course like TPC Southwind where accuracy trumps distance, Homa’s metronomic swing could propel him to victory.

I’ve been hugely impressed with this young Canadian on the PGA tour this season. I think he’s great each way value here and he’s my one to watch for next season. He’s got the game to win a big tourney at any old money.
