Shriners Childrens Open – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

As Vince Vaughn says in the movie Swingers: ‘We’re in Vegas baby, Vegas!’

The PGA Tour pulls into sin city this week for the Shriners Open. TPC Summerlin is the venue for this long-term destination for the tour. This 7,255 yard, par 72 course is one of the least demanding setups that the players will encounter all season.

It’s short length, wide fairways and greens, and lack of penal rough means that it’s a birdie sprint from the first tee.

I’m looking for top quality ball strikers, hot putters and players that have been hot lately, or who have done well here in the past.

Cole keeps producing strong performances week after week. His iron game has seen him squarely in contention for rookie of the year and this course is all about ball striking from the fairways. I think this layout will give Cole every chance to record that first PGA Tour victory.

⛳ Matthew Nesmith– Currently at

Nesmith finished second to Tom Kim at this tournament last year. It’s no surprise to see one of the best irons players, year in year out, go well around here. What was interesting to see was that he roared up the leaderboard at the Sanderson Farms championship last week to be challenging for the lead before loosing some momentum and finishing in a tie for 25th. NeSmith is a hot and cold sort of player. He looks like he is getting hot at the right time coming to a course he has form at. This price represents some decent each way value here.

⛳ Vincent Norman – Currently at

This young man is seriously classy prospect. He beat a decent field, which included home favourites McIlroy and Lowry to win Irish Open recently. That’s his second win of 2023 having won the Barbasol Championship a few months earlier. The combination of a benign layout and a fairly unthreatening field could see the talented Swede notch yet another win in his fledgeling career. Regardless of how he does this week, jot his name down for 2024. The lad looks the business!

⛳ Mark Hubbard – Currently at

Hubbard is another one of those players who fares far better on shorter, second shot type courses than on the monster length layouts. That stat checks out with his consistently solid form record at this venue and others like it. He went very well at another ball strikers paradise last week, finishing one shot out of the playoff for first place at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Hubbard has caught my eye recently with a string of high leaderboard finishes. He comes to a course he clearly enjoys with his game in great nick.
