Whilst Rangers seek another year in the Champions League Group Stage, they face a stern opponent in Dutch heavyweights PSV Eindhoven.
The Qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League do occasionally throw interesting ties and this is no different as PSV Eindhoven travel to Glasgow on Tuesday night to face off against Michael Beale’s Rangers.
Rangers have faced an up and down summer after the departures of stars like Alfredos Morelos and Ryan Kent on free transfers. A 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock on the opening weekend of the SPFL has not helped but despite a nervy draw away to Servette in the second leg of the last Qualifying round, Rangers are slowly finding their groove as they seek out entry to the premier club competition in Europe.
Four of their new signings hit the back of the net against Livingston in Gameweek 2 including new star man Sam Lammers, formerly of Atalanta, bringing some top-five league and UCL nous to their midfield and with a home leg up first again, you’d expect Rangers to play as favourites, despite their opposition.

PSV Eindhoven however, will be aspiring to land a knockout blow early as they seek their way to the Champions League group stage. New arrival Noa Lang has had Premier League interest previously and settled in very quickly with goals in the previous round and in the league. The young right-back Sergino Dest returning to Holland on loan from Barcelona is a huge boost with experience in major leagues. PSV won the Dutch Super Cup vs Feyenoord and have won 2 from 2 in the Eredivisie as well. A noisy Philips Stadion in the second leg of this clash could prove decisive, but Ibrox will be just as feisty.
A tense 3-2 aggregate win for Rangers at the same stage of this competition last year (which included a 2-2 draw at Ibrox) would suggest a similar result, and that would benefit Luuk De Jong. He’s scored four goals for PSV this season – including in both legs of their aggregate win against Sturm Graz – and 13/8 to score anytime with starsports.bet could be value.
In the match odds, PSV make appeal. Peter Bosz’s side have hit the ground running with five straight wins in all competitions, scoring at least two goals in their Champions League and Eredivisie fixtures, and based on how Rangers struggled against Servette it’s possible they’re in better shape than their hosts.
