Premier League Matchday 2 Preview – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent ALEX CROOK previews the weekend’s Premier League action with his recommended selections on starsports.bet.

The first weekend of the Premier League threw up plenty of talking points and it was nice to make a winning start to the season with Brighton -2 on the handicap to beat Luton and a score draw between Chelsea and Liverpool coming up trumps for us.

The postponement of the game between Luton and Burnley due to renovation work at Kenilworth Road means we only have nine fixtures, but there is still plenty of potential and some mouthwatering clashes including Tottenham v Manchester United and what is always a feisty London derby between West Ham and Mauricio Pochettino’s new-look Chelsea.

⚽ NOTTINGHAM FOREST v SHEFFIELD UNITED

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

It is obviously far too early in the season to start talking about relegation six pointers, but this feels like a massive game for both teams.

Forest were second best for much of their opening day defeat at Arsenal, but finished with flourish, thanks in no small part to the impact of substitute Anthony Elanga, who could be handed his first start on Friday night.

Taiwo Awoniyi also came off the bench to score Forest’s consolation goal in north London and is bidding to become the first Tricky Trees player since Stan Collymore in 1995 to net in six successive Premier League matches.

Sheffield United were very poor in their 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace and it is already looking like a forlorn task for manager Paul Heckingbottom to keep them up having not been backed in the transfer market.

It was Forest’s home form that kept them up last season and I think they are a very safe bet at 17/20 with starsports.bet to win

I am going to double that up with a Forest win and Awoniyi to score at any time, which pays just over 2/1 as a Build-a-bet with starsports.bet.

⚽ MANCHESTER CITY v NEWCASTLE

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

This game was originally due to take place at 12.30 on Saturday but has been moved to the evening to give City more time to recover from their mid-week European Super Cup victory, not that the rescheduling has stopped Pep Guardiola from moaning about fixture congestion!

Newcastle have a dismal record away from home against City, and have not beaten the treble winners on the road since they moved from Maine Road to the Etihad.

Alan Shearer got the winner that day and in Alexander Isak the Magpies appear to have found themselves another world class striker.

The Swede was scintillating in Newcastle’s 5-1 demolition of Aston Villa and I think Isak to score at any time at 21/10 with starsports.bet represents excellent value.

This is also a fixture that historically guarantees goals, averaging more than 2 a game, so I am going to put up over 3.5 goals at 13/8 with starsports.bet

⚽ TOTTENHAM v MAN U

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

I was at Old Trafford on Monday night and United’s performance made for very uncomfortable viewing from behind the goal.

If Wolves had been more clinical with the numerous chances they created then Gary O’Neil’s side could easily have been celebrating an unexpected win.

The balance of United’s midfield looked totally wrong, and I would not be surprised if Christian Eriksen was picked to start against his old club to offset that.

Marcus Rashford also looked out of sorts playing as a central striker, so could be switched back out to his more favored left-wing role.

Even without Harry Kane, Tottenham look a much more entertaining and attack-minded side under new manager Ange Postecoglou (pictured below) so United are going to have to be much improved to avoid defeat.

However, the Red Devils have a good record in this part of north London and have not lost at Spurs since January 2018.

Both teams would probably settle for an entertaining draw at this stage of the season so my selection is the match to end in a draw and both teams to score at 10/3 with starsports.bet
