Premier League Gameweek 6 Preview – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent ALEX CROOK previews the weekend’s Premier League action with his recommended selections on starsports.bet including a BOOSTED treble.

Alex starts with Brentford v Everton…

🐝 BRENTFORD v EVERTON 🔵

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

Brentford suffered their first defeat of the season by losing 1-0 at Newcastle last weekend, but Thomas Frank’s side will see this as a golden opportunity to get back to winning ways.

Since the start of last season the Bees have only lost twice at home, although they have dropped points to both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace in recent weeks, which gives struggling Everton a glimmer of hope.

The issue for Sean Dyche’s side is where the goals will come from having netted just twice in their opening five games, both coming in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

The Toffees were woefully poor going forward in last weekend’s limp 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal and there are already whispers that Dyche is coming under pressure, particularly with a takeover looming.

I do not expect Dyche to release the attacking shackles against a Brentford side with the ability to do real damage on the counter-attack so it is hard to make a case for Everton ending their scoring woes.

Dyche would be delighted to leave West London with a point and Brentford to win to nil at 2/1 with starsports.bet is my standout selection of the weekend.

Bryan Mbuemo has netted five times in his last six games so I will also be playing Mbuemo to score the first goal at 9/2 with starsports.bet and including the Frenchman in my anytime goalscorer weekend treble.

🟣 ASTON VILLA v CHELSEA 🔵

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino called for patience from fans after the last weekend’s dour 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

That patience might be in short supply if Chelsea, currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table, drop more points at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The big-spending Blues lost their last game at Stamford Bridge 1-0 to Nottingham Forest and have had a real problem sticking the ball in the net.

Bournemouth are the only team outside the bottom three who have scored fewer goals than Pochettino’s men so Villa will fancy their chances of repeating their victory in this fixture at the end of last season.

The only negative attached to the visitors is that they come into the game off the back of an arduous trip to Poland in the Europa League in midweek whereas Chelsea have had a full week’s preparation.

For that reason, I am siding with Chelsea and Aston Villa to draw at 11/4 with starsports.bet.

Ollie Watkins has made a slow start to the season in terms of goals but did not net in Villa’s 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in April and Watkins is 9/5 with starsports.bet to score at any time.

🔴 ARSENAL v TOTTENHAM ⚪

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MARKET ⭐

I will be attending my first-ever North London derby on Sunday and cannot wait to be there.

Arsenal against Tottenham is one of the fiercest rivalries in English football, and particularly given the start to the season both teams have made to the season, the atmosphere will be red hot.

I’m slightly surprised Arsenal are so short in the betting to win the game at 4/6 with starsports.bet, but this is probably a reflection of how consistent they have been at home since the start of last season.

I do also believe Tottenham have benefitted from a relatively easy run of fixtures at the start of the season and while their 2-1 stoppage time win over Sheffield United was character-laden and dramatic, it wasn’t overly impressive.

At this moment I think Arsenal are more of the complete package than their arch foes and a stronger defensive unit.

For that reason, I think Mikel Arteta’s side could win with a little bit more in hand than many people expect. Arsenal to win 3-1 is a tempting 10/1 with starsports.bet.

James Maddison is a player Arsenal should fear and will revel in playing in such a hostile environment. It would not surprise me if Maddison got himself on the scoresheet but Arsenal’s ‘star boy’ and local hero Bukayo Saka to score at any time is 7/5 with starsports.bet to complete my treble.
