Premier League Gameweek 12 Preview – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent ALEX CROOK previews a cracking weekend of Premier League football…

🟠 WOLVES v NEWCASTLE ⚫

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐

After a sensational start to the season Spurs were brought crashing to earth by rivals Chelsea as Mauricio Pochettino celebrated his return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a very dramatic 4-1 win.

It was not just the heavy defeat that was a body blow for Ange Postecoglu but losing key duo Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie to suspension and seeing Micky van de Ven and James Maddison hobble off injured.

Squad depth was always going to be a barrier to Spurs mounting a serious Premier League title challenge and the absentees make the north Londoners vulnerable against a Wolves side who have already punched above their weight against a number of top sides this season.

Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle have all dropped points at Molineux while Wolves also took the lead at home to Liverpool and did not deserve to lose at Manchester United on the opening weekend.

Wanderers gaffer Gary O’Neil is a master at tailoring a game-plan to the opposition his team are facing and will relish the prospect of out-thinking big Ange.

If star man Pedro Neto was fit then I may be tempted to put up a home win, but with the Portuguese speedster expected to be sidelined for next few weeks I will be a touch more cautious.

I certainly think the hosts will make this a competitive contest so Draw (Wolves +1) on the handicap at 13/10 with starsports.bet will do for me to hopefully give us a winning start to the weekend.

🔴 MANCHESTER UNITED v LUTON 🟠

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐

Manchester United’s dismal season continued with an incredible 4-3 defeat at Copenhagen on Wednesday to leave their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages hanging by a thread.

Despite the defeat – United’s ninth of the campaign – there were positives for the under-pressure Erik ten hag to cling onto.

After having Marcus Rashford sent off when cruising to victory and quickly surrendering a 2-0 advantage, the Red Devils’ ten men showed tremendous second half character to retake the lead before defensive lapses ultimately cost them dear.

Seeing Rasmus Hojlund net twice against his hometown club also gives the suffering United fans reason to be cheerful.

Despite scoring four European goals, the young Dane has still not managed to find the target in the Premier League, but surely the visit of a Luton side who have looked defensively vulnerable away from home is a great opportunity to arrest that record.

Hojlund is 5/6 with starsports.bet to score at any time and 31/10 to score the first goal. If it doesn’t happen this weekend then the £70m man might start to think it never will.

🔴 ARSENAL v BURNLEY 🟣

⭐ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐

I will be at the Emirates for the visit of a Burnley side who are already staring at an instant return to the Championship having taken just four points from their first 11 games.

It is not just the fact the Clarets are losing games that has convinced me they are heading straight back down, but the manner in which they are beaten.

Manager Vincent Kompany earned plenty of plaudits for the swashbuckling football his team played in amassing more than 100 points last season, but they are far too open to hold their own in the Premier League.

The Clarets have already shipped 27 goals, just three fewer than basement boys Sheffield United, and if Kompany tries to go toe-to-toe with Mikel Arteta’s team they will be beaten out of sight again.

Even without a recognised number 9 Arsenal were far too strong for Seville in the Champions League on Wednesday night with Gabriel Martinelli in particular catching the eye.

If in the same vein of form the Brazilian should have a field day against Burnley’s colander-like backline so I am backing Martinelli to score first at 4/1 with starsports.bet.

Martinelli will also be part of my price-boosted anytime goalscorer treble along with Hojlund and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson when they face Sheffield United on Sunday.

Burnley have failed to score in three of their last four games and I envisage that trend continuing so I have put together a build-a-bet of Arsenal to win, both teams to score no, over 2.5 goals and Martinelli to score at any time which returns around 4/1 with starsports.bet..
