Phoenix Open – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

It’s February, which means it’s time for the biggest party in golf.

The Phoenix Open has carved out its reputation as a four-day frat party, followed by the Super Bowl on Sunday night. Thankfully we’re back to a one-course set up and what a course it is.

TPC Scottsdale is located in the desert, on the fringes of Phoenix, Arizona. It’s the archetypal risk reward set up, where multiple shots can be rapidly gained or dropped, particularly on the back nine with its two reachable par fives and its driveable par four seventeenth that possesses a large watery grave sitting right next to the green. It might well be my favourite par four on the PGA Tour. TPC Scottsdale favours neither long or short hitters. What it does favour is a pro who is brave and accurate when the opportunity arises and who is on top of their scrambling and putting game as the rapid, undulating greens are no joke.

The big kiwi has the guns to make short work of the par fives around Phoenix. Fox has leapt up the world golf rankings in the last couple of years and he’s a far better golfer than this price suggests. He’s not afraid to release those big shoulders and looks a nice each-way price to me here.

Vincent Norrman – Currently at

Norrman started the year slowly, but he showed improved form at the Amex to be hovering near the top of the leaderboard. He’s a young man I pointed out at the beginning of the year as an exciting talent to watch out for. If he starts well here, this PGA Tour winner and European Tour winner could look stonking each way value come Sunday.

Burns has been in rock-solid form the last few weeks. He should have registered another PGA tour win at the Amex but had a nightmare Sunday which saw Nick Dunlap swoop in and pick up his maiden tour victory. When Burns is hot, he’s hard to ignore and I can’t pass him up, even if he is at a lower price than I’d usually like. He’s got the power to benefit around TPC Scottsdale and had a good showing here last year, finishing tied 6th. I think his recent form combined with his course form means you can’t leave him out.

I’m a glutton for punishment with this bloke at this stage. He’ll probably be in the lead on Sunday and stick it in the water on the 17th to lose the tournament just to complete the cosmic joke.
