Newcastle v Brentford – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Newcastle United have had a bruising start to the season but with Europe on the horizon, the Magpies can’t afford another slip as high-flying Brentford make the trip north.

Eddie Howe’s side have had a mixed start to the season, destroying Aston Villa 5-1 on the opening weekend before three successive losses, including a 2-1 reverse against Liverpool when they were a goal and a man up, and a 3-1 loss against Brighton. It’s easy to forgive their loss at Manchester City, but there were some slightly worrying signs in the losses against Liverpool and Brighton – both sides Newcastle will be competing with for a top-four place.

Whilst the start to the season has not been ideal – and Newcastle also face the group of death in the Champions League with PSG, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund in opposition – Eddie Howe has a huge amount of talent in his squad and they’ll back themselves to get back to winning ways soon, even if 1/2 with starsports.bet may seem short.

Brentford, meanwhile, seem to have struggled in finishing halves and games. A late first-half equaliser for Spurs, a 76th-minute equaliser for Crystal Palace and a 93rd-minute equaliser from Bryan Mbeumo against Bournemouth have all taken points away from the Bees so far this season.

Thomas Frank’s men aren’t afraid of big teams and tough atmospheres, and they could have suffered a worse start than going undefeated record after four games, for all that Newcastle away is their toughest task of the campaign so far.

However, with Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo scoring goals between them so far, they don’t look to be missing Ivan Toney too badly, and 14/5 on Mbemo to score anytime with starsports.bet makes appeal. He’s scored four goals already this season and continued his excellent form when he helped Cameroon qualify for the African Cup of Nations during the international break.

Newcastle and Brentford have played eight games between them this season and both sides have scored in six of them, so the 3/4 on offer that both sides get on the scoresheet looks fair.
