Musselburgh on New Year’s Day – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Wishing all readers a very Happy New Year and every success in 2024 writes HARRY SKELTON.

My year starts off at Musselburgh on Monday with three rides. It was nice to get a winner at Kempton over Christmas with Martha Brae who stayed on really well to land the mares handicap hurdle on Wednesday – at least I think it was Wednesday – it gets very confusing at this time of the year !!

He ran really nicely at Cheltenham last time, when seeing out his race well to finish fifth. It was great to see him get back on track and return to the promise he showed as a juvenile. Stepping up in trip to 2m4f will be fine for him, as should the track and the ground. If he’s taken a step forward from last time, then he should go very well.

It was a good effort from him last time in a competitive handicap hurdle at Cheltenham. He didn’t see out the trip up the hill there though, and hopefully the flat track at Musselburgh will play to his strengths. If this is strongly run and he gets a good pace to aim at, that will really suit him.

FRERE D’ARMES

There’s a good bit of money on offer at Musselburgh and we’re keen to take our chance with Frere D’Armes (pictured below). Hopefully the ground won’t be too soft, as a sounder surface is ideal for him. He ran well last time at Ascot and should hold every chance.

Good Luck
HARRY
