Liverpool v Chelsea – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

In arguably the pick of the mid-week Premier League fixtures, Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Wednesday as the Reds look to stay at the top of the table.

The whole of Liverpool is still reeling from the shock news that Jurgen Klopp will be standing down as manager at the of the end of the season, after nearly a decade in charge, but they didn’t let it affect their performance much at the weekend.

Klopp’s side cruised to a comfortable 5-2 victory over Norwich City in the FA Cup on Sunday with goals coming from Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch.

They will now be looking to build on that in the league and stay at the top of the division. After that Klopp announcement, their motivation to win the league – and send their manager out on a high – will likely have gone through the roof.

It hasn’t been the best of seasons for Chelsea, but they do seem to have got their act together in recent weeks and will be searching for their fourth win in a row in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

In their most recent outing, they were held to a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup by Aston Villa but did manage to smash Middlesbrough 6-1 days before to progress to the final of the EFL Cup which, ironically, will be played against Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino has said he is expecting a quiet end to the transfer window for Chelsea, with no ins or outs expected, which is something he will probably be fairly comfortable with as he looks for a settled side.

The last seven – yes, SEVEN – meetings between these two sides have ended in a draw so 15/4 for another stalemate with feels like a generous price.
