The whole point of this retirement game is that my first blog back this season would be about others in the saddle and not me.
Well, that hasn’t quite worked out as I had expected as, here I am, preparing to ride at Doncaster on Sunday in the Leger Legends race.
It’s all in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund and it will be some craic for a wonderful cause.
I’m just over for the day and will fly over and back on Sunday.
I’m looking forward to riding against some of the lads again including Dickie (Richard Johnson), it will be like old times.
The only worry I have is that 11 stone 7lbs seems a bit far away at the moment and not as easy as it once was. I’ve not even tried my riding boots on again and just hope they fit.
I never actually got to ride against Jamie Osborne as we are different generations – he must be in his 70s now!
All jokes aside, that will be a real pleasure for me as he is a pilot I’ve always looked up to and it will be great to line-up against him for the first time.
Everyone thinks I’ve been practicing but I’ve not even ridden out – I’ve just been keeping the horses fit at home.
There’s a fair few taking it very seriously… Jamie Osborne 😊
Life in retirement
It’s been a hell of a busy time at home what with the kids and preparing the horses for the sales.
I joked a few months ago when I came over for Royal Ascot that this retirement lark is exhausting… Edelle is the toughest boss I’ve ever worked for!
No, life is great and its been great spending some time with the family.
As the jump season fast approaches I’ll still be heading into Gordon’s and will keep you updated via my usual blog.
In the meantime, cheer me on come Sunday and if you’ve a few quid to spare you can support us here….
