Cyprus v Scotland – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Scotland will be hoping to continue their impressive start to EURO 2024 qualifying when they make the trip to Cyrpus on Friday evening.

Rather remarkably, Steve Clarke’s side have four wins from their opening four qualifying matches – which included that incredibly impressive 2-0 victory over Spain in March – and will now have their sights set on winning Group A.

When these two sides met in March, Scotland comfortably brushed Cyrpus aside with a 3-0 win after a goal from John McGinn and a brace from Scott McTominay. This will certainly give Clarke’s men confidence heading into their first match of the international break.

Midfielder Ryan Christie said this week that he believes the Scotland squad has the “perfect mix” of youth and experience, which includes young players like Billy Gilmour and Aaron Hickey as well as older pros such as Kenny McLean and Callum McGregor.

In stark contrast to the start made by Scotland, Cyprus have lost all four of their qualifying matches so far and sit rock bottom of Group A.

In the last international break, Cyprus suffered defeats to Georgia and Norway which leaves their qualifying campaign in complete tatters.

Scotland must not underestimate their opponents and get over-confident are their recent run of results, but I can’t see them dropping points in this one. I am backing Scotland to win to nil at 10/11 with starsports.bet.

I am also backing Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, who has proved himself to be something of a talisman for Scotland over the years, to score anytime at 29/20.
