Sunday is once again fun day with a full five-game schedule, none bigger than at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea again take centre stage.
The home fans would have been hoping the gap to champions Manchester City in the Premier League would be a lot closer than the 12 points currently separating the two in the table.
The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as manager did not have an immediate uplift, hence the chasm between the former and defending champions.
However, Pochettino can claim a recent upturn in fortunes, with the Blues winning four of their last six games in all competitions, including the 4-1 trouncing of Tottenham on the Argentine’s return to north London on Monday night.
That game still threw up as many questions as answers for Chelsea, who wasted a host of good openings against a Spurs side who played most of the second half with nine-men.
Nicolas Jackson’s late-hat-trick does not mask the fact Pochettino’s troops will have to go up another couple of gears to match City if the visitors are anywhere near their brilliant best.
One big positive for Pochettino is that Chelsea have saved their better performances for games against the bigger sides, drawing with Liverpool and Arsenal at home and toppling Spurs in their own back yard.
Cole Palmer has been the subject of a lot of attention in the build-up to the game as he lines up against his former club for the first time since making a surprise summer £42.5m move from the Etihad to Stamford Bridge.
England under-21 ace Palmer seems the type of character who would love to get one over Guardiola.
Palmer to score at anytime is 7/2 with starsports.bet
City’s reaction to their shock defeat at Arsenal last month has been emphatic, but I think the absence of the injured John Stones should offer Chelsea encouragement.
I don’t see the home side keeping a clean sheet and having already tipped up Palmer to net I will be backing both teams to score at 3/4 with starsports.bet
City’s need for victory has been heightened by Arsenal going level on points at the top of the table by sweeping Burnley aside on Saturday and I think they will edge this, probably by the odd goal.
A build-a-bet of Manchester City to win, both teams to score and Palmer to score any time returns around 14.41 with starsports.bet.
