Burnley v Luton Town – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Kompany’s Clarets host Luton in a relegation battle that would see the away side escape the red zone with three points…

Amidst an underwhelming campaign so far for Burnley where they’ve been unable to match their Championship heights of last season, they must take on Rob Edwards’ Luton side who are in fantastic form in the context of their position in 18th.

Burnley would’ve fancied this fixture on paper at the start of the season, but after just two wins and seven losses from their last ten matches, a strikingly positive result seems hard to envisage for the home side who haven’t been able to replicate their 5-0 effort against the rock bottom Sheffield United against any other club.

Zeki Amdouni and Lyle Foster will likely lead the attacking charge for the Clarets once again but with just three and four goals respectively, it’s hard to see them being a potent enough goalscoring threat to fully dismiss Luton’s attacking options.

Despite missing a great chance in the final minute against Tottenham provided by goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, they were fortunate to only lose 1-0 that day and the midfield engine room of Aaron Ramsey and Josh Cullen never looked convincing enough to break the 78-minute goalless deadlock in Burnley’s favour.

The right side of Burnley’s defence, namely Vitinho and O’Shea seemed to prove the best point of attack for Spurs seven days ago and this could certainly be an angle noticed by Rob Edwards who will likely deploy the ever-proficient Elijah Adebayo to patrol the area.

⭐ BURNLEY V LUTON STARSPORTS.BET MARKETS ⭐

Rob Edwards arrives at Turf Moor on the back of an exciting December which saw Luton lose by just one goal to high fliers Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea, with an impressive combined total of 12 goals across 7 matches.

Surprisingly, it was their most recent cup tie at home against Bolton which ended in a goalless draw that brought an end to Luton’s goalscoring gallop.

To say that match was one-way traffic would be an understatement and it baffles me how Luton didn’t get the ball across the line. The home side were exemplary against the subdued League One side which involved 13 shots, 6 of which were on target, and a horrendously unlucky woodwork rebound.

Although they still should’ve had the class to beat Bolton, the equal scoreline doesn’t tell you the full story of the unequal performances and I do not doubt Luton’s ability to prevail in the replay match.

Adebayo is still in decent enough form with three goals in his last seven outings and Ross Barkley has been displaying some phenomenal performances in recent weeks which has led to Luton being one of my favourites to watch lately in terms of raw football entertainment. They seem to always give you the ‘what if’ feeling against the most unlikely of opponents and have certainly surpassed the expectations of many this season, unlike Burnley.

VERDICT
Burnley have won just one home game this season and lost all nine of the others and their performances lately haven’t persuaded me that they deserve to be an odds-on favourite with some firms for this fixture. Luton have shown some tremendous class in recent weeks and against a 19th-placed Burnley they’ll surely fancy their chances to get three points and propel themselves out of relegation, even if it’s only temporarily. The away side is a bet at 13/5 with starsports.bet.
