Brighton v Newcastle – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

Brighton have been the great entertainers of the Premier League season so far and neutrals could be in for another goal fest when Newcastle United come to town.

Since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, the Seagulls have found a new goalscoring level, finding the back of the net 70 times in 35 matches under the Italian – and the form that took them to sixth last season continues in their first two fixtures with 4-1 wins against Luton and Wolves.

Their all-out attacking approach does leave them open defensively however, and they got a counter-attacking masterclass when West Ham won 3-1 at the Amex in a classic puncher’s performance. Brighton suffocated the Hammers and dominated territory – their total of just 31 successful passes in the first half was the lowest total reached by a Premier League side since November 2006 – but the visitors exploited the space left behind ruthlessly to score their three goals and they held on well despite the hosts’ pressure.

After a brilliant start against Aston Villa with a 5-1 win the Magpies have been brought down to earth with back-to-back losses, although it’s hard to be too critical about defeats at Manchester City and against Liverpool.

Eddie How will be aggrieved about the latter result, which came in a match they largely dominated (won xG count 2-0.9, won shot count 23-9, won shots on target count 8-4) before the sensational late cameo of Darwin Nunez, but Newcastle carried plenty of attacking threat and should do the same on the south coast.

With Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton to call upon (not forgetting Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes) the Geordies have plenty of firepower and can contribute to a high scoring game.

The markets are anticipating a shootout – both teams to score is just 2/5 with starsports.bet – and the best bet could be over 3.5 goals, which has landed in all three of Brighton’s games this season.
