Azhar Ali receives last-minute wave of support in Rochdale by-election – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

On the day of the Rochdale by-election, a last-minute surge in support has seen Azhar Ali make back some ground on George Galloway in the betting, according to Star Sports.

Support for Azhar Ali was pulled by the Labour party a couple of weeks ago which saw him drift out of odds-on favouritism. However, he’s now 11/8 from 2/1 as an independent campaigner.

George Galloway – installed at the time as heavy favourite following Labour’s withdrawal of support – still leads the running for the Workers Party of Britain but is now 8/13 from 1/3.

There has also been notable late support for independent candidate David Tully, who has seen his odds shift from 200/1 into 66/1.

William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “We’ve seen a big shift in the betting with Azhar Ali edging back into contention for the Rochdale by-election.

“Ali now sits at 11/8 to win the Rochdale seat, from 2/1 earlier in the week, as he stands as an independent campaigner following Labour’s withdrawal of support.

“George Galloway remains the favourite in the betting at 8/13 in this rollercoaster by-election, but the market suggests that the contest is closer than ever ahead of tonight’s results.

“We’ve also seen plenty of money for independent candidate David Tully, who has been backed into 66/1 from 200/1.”
