Aintree Boxing Day blog – Football & Racing News – Star Sports

The Christmas period is always really busy for everyone but there’s some fantastic racing and it’s a time of year I really enjoy. It will be a bit strange going to Aintree on Boxing Day with their new meeting up there, but hopefully we can bag a winner writes HARRY SKELTON.

I would like to thank all the stable staff up and down the country for the hard work and dedication they put in, particularly at Christmas. The horses still needing looking after, feeding and exercising on Christmas Day, and they all do it because they love horses.

I’ll be back with another blog ahead of New Year, but I’d just like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and all the best for 2024.

Boxing Day

– 11:55am William Hill Double Your Odds Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Mares’ Hurdle Qualifier) (Class 4) 2m 4f

She’s stepping up into handicap company and I can’t see the trip or ground being an issue. The handicapper has been generous, so she’s running off a good mark having run well to finish second the last day at Warwick. She galloped through the line and hopefully she’ll go very close in this.

SHOLOKJACK (pictured below)

– 1:40pm William Hill Epic Value Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 2) 2m 4f

The 2m4f handicap hurdle is a valuable race and he had a nice run last time out at Sandown. This time the handicapper seems to have given him a good chance with no weight on his back, carrying 10st 3lbs. The soft ground will suit him really well and we’re hopeful of a good run. We’re expecting a tough race, but I think he’s taken another step forward since his last run and he’s competitively handicapped so he’s in with a shout.

– 2:15pm William Hill Epic Boost Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m 1f

He’s run well in his last three races; we’d like to think the trip and ground are no problem. He’s got more experience under his belt but just got touched off the last day at Wetherby. There’s no reason he shouldn’t hold a competitive chance.

– 3:25pm William Hill Stories Open National Hunt Flat Race (Category 1 Elimination) (Series Qualifier) (GBB) (Class 4)  2m 1f

He’s an unraced horse who we’re trying out in the bumper, but we like what we’ve seen at home. He’s very straightforward and we’re looking forward to seeing how he gets on out on track. He’s a bit of an unknown as you never really know with newcomers, but as long as he gallops through the line, we’ll be happy.

Christmas Hurdle (1.55pm)

Obviously it’s great to see Constitution Hill back and with a clear round he’s going to be incredibly tough to beat. Hopefully we get to see something special from him.

King George (2.30pm)

It’s going to be a small yet select field for the King George. I think Allaho is the one for me. He’s just a very good horse and he’d be the one I’d want to be on.

Good Luck
