Who is Muhammad?

According to Islam...

As found on the Islam.com web site, Muhammad is supposedly the prophet spoken of by God in Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18.  However, if God is God... (and He is), why would God contradict Himself so blatently in the Koran?

Here is what Islam say's about Muhammad...

QUOTE
"According to the Bible, God said to Moses, on whom be peace:

"I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers, I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him."
(The Holy Bible, New International Version, Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18)

The prophet described in the verse above must have the following three characterstics:

  1. He will be like Moses
  2. He will come from the brothers of the Israelities, i.e. the Ishmaelites.
  3. God will put His words in the mouth of that prophet and he will declare what God commanded him.

Lets see which prophet God was speaking of.

1. The prophet like Moses

Some people feel that the prophecy refers to the prophet Jesus, on whom be peace. But, although Jesus was truly a prophet of God, he is not the prophet spoken of here. He was born miraculously, and, finally, God raised him up miraculously. On the other hand, Muhammad, peace be upon him, is more like Moses; both were born in a natural way and both died natural deaths.

2. From among the Ishmaelites
Abraham (PBUH) had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, on whom be peace. Ishmael becae the grandfather of the Arab nation, and Isaac became the grandfather of the Jewish nation. The prophet spoken of was to come not from among the Jew themselves, but from among their brothers, the Ishmaelites. Muhammad, Peace be upon him, a descedant of Ishmael, is indeed that prophet.

3. God will put His words in his mouth
"Neither the content of the revelation, nor its form, were of Mohammed's devising. Both were given by the angel, and Muhammad's task was only to repeat what he heard". God sent the angel Gabriel to teach Muhammad (PBUH) the exact words that he should repeat to the people. The words are therefore not his own; they did not come from his own thoughts, but were put into his mouth by the angel. These are written down in the Qur'an exactly as they came from God.

Now that we know that prophet, we must listen to him, for according to the Bible, God says, "I will punish anyone who refuses to obey him".(Good News Bible, Deut. 18:19)."
END QUOTE

(1) The problem with this is that the Koran, (spelled Quran by Muslim's) contradicts the Word of God, the Bible.  This means that God's infallible, inerrant and unchanging Word, the Bible, has been changed...  made fallible, errant, and changing.  To see some contradictions of the Koran click the following link...

(2) Islam claims that "prophet spoken of was to come not from among the Jew themselves, but from among their brothers, the Ishmaelites".  However, Islam tries to put the word "brothers", or as the King James Bible (the actual translation, the authorized version of the Bible) says, "brethren", in the context that because God says the prophet would come from brethren God must have meant someone who was not immediately related to the Jews, therefore, they would only be brothers.
However, the fact that God used the word brethren, talking to a Jew about a Jew, means just what God intended it to mean.  Here is the definition of "brethren" as found in Strong's Hebrew Dictionary...

Brethren

Strong's number 251
251 - Hebrew

251 'ach awkh

a primitive word; a brother (used in the widest sense of literal relationship and metaphorical affinity or resemblance (like 1)):--another, brother(-ly); kindred, like, other. Compare also the proper names beginning with "Ah-" or "Ahi-".

Strong's Hebrew Dictionary say's that the word brethren means "of literal relationship" and "kindred".  And what is a kindred?

Kindred

mowledeth mo-leh'-deth
nativity (plural birth-place); by implication, lineage, native country; also offspring, family:--begotten, born, issue, kindred, native(-ity).

The literal definition of kindred then is family.  Not as Islam would have us to believe, that the prophet came NOT from the Jews, "but from among their brothers, the Ishmaelites".  Contrarily, we can see that the prophet would be a brother of the Jews, ... family.  God meant what He said when He said that the prophet would be "raised up from among their brethren".  This reinforces that Jesus, being a Jew Himself, was that Prophet spoken of by God in Deuteronomy 18:18

(3) Muhammad came along some 500 years AFTER the cannon of scripture, that is the finality of the written Word of God.

A leaflet prepared by the Institute of Islamic Information and Education titled "Introducing Islam to Non-Muslims" states, "Mohammed is the very last Prophet of God to mankind. He is the final Messenger of God. His message was and is still to the Christians, the Jews and the rest of mankind. He was sent to those religious people to inform them about the true mission of Jesus, Moses, David, Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham." The leaflet continues, "Mohammed is considered to be the summation and the culmination of all the prophets and messengers that came before him. He purified the previous messages from adulteration and completed the Message of God for all humanity. He was entrusted with the power of explaining, interpreting and living the teachings of the Koran."

Believers must recognize that Joseph Smith (Mormonism), Charles T. Russell (Jehovah’s Witnesses), Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Science) and Ellen G. White (Seventh Day Adventism) have all claimed that same transcendent authority. As with all of the aforementioned, Mohammed gave his followers wicked doctrines that have plunged many into the outer darkness of eternal torment.
