Is Peter the head of the Church?
Not according to God and the Bible!
|
The whole Bible teaches Jesus Christ: The Old Testament
teaches and prepares for His coming. The New Testament teaches
how to be saved through Jesus Christ. So how is it that a
religion, such as the Catholic one, can get the entire overall message
of the Word of God wrong?
Perhaps it is because of Matthew 16:17... Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, THAT THOU ART PETER, AND UPON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
But Jesus was speaking of HIMSELF.
In scripture, Jesus is referred to as the "rock" :
- EPHESIANS 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as
Christ is the head of the church: and he is
the saviour of the body.
- COLOSSIANS 1:18 (speaking of Jesus)
And he is the head of the body, the
church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the
dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
- 1 CORINTHIANS 3:11
For other foundation can no man lay than that is
laid, which is Jesus Christ.
- 1 PETER 2:4-8
To whom coming, as unto a living
stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and
precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to
God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,
Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which
be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the
same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of
stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which
stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were
appointed. ( Here Peter is preaching about Jesus,
not himself: "disallowed
indeed of men, but chosen of God - Who
was disallowed by men? Surly not Peter, for Peter even today is widly
thought to be the head of the Church in Catholic organizations, and
that is certainly not disallowing. It is Jesus who is rejected and
disallowed by men. He was by the Roman Pharisees back in His day of
being here in the flesh, and He still is today)
